For the first DTU-LYS colloquia of 2020 we had the pleasure of having two distinguished guest speakers. The focus was on terahertz pulses and sources.

Professor Franz X. Kärtner's talk on Compact Terahertz Driven Electron and X-ray Sources highlighted laser based high energy terahertz generation, which ultimately is envisioned to enable fully coherent X-ray production from compact sources.

Professor Frank Hegmann's talk on Imaging ultrafast phenomena on the nanoscale with THz-STM combines the high spatial resolution of the scanning tunneling microscopes (STM) with ultrafast terahertz (THz) pulses showing simultaneous 0.5 ps time resolution and 2 nm spatial resolution under ambient conditions.

Both talks captivated the audience which subsequently resulted in long Q&As.

DTU-LYS would like to thank Professor Franz X. Kärtner and Professor Frank Hegmann for two fascinating presentations and discussions.
